Express Entry Practical Guide

The fast-track selection system for skilled workers seeking permanent residency in Canada.

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is not an immigration program itself, but a management system for applications under three federal skilled worker programs:

Federal Skilled Worker Program

For workers with skilled work experience abroad.

Federal Skilled Trades Program

For skilled workers qualified in a specialized trade.

Canadian Experience Class

For skilled workers with work experience in Canada.

How does it work?

The process takes place in two main steps:

  1. Profile Creation: You submit your profile to the Express Entry pool. You receive a score based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
  2. Invitation to Apply (ITA): The highest-ranked candidates are invited to apply for permanent residency during regular invitation rounds.

Selection Criteria (CRS)

Your score depends on several factors:

  • Age
  • Level of Education
  • French and/or English Proficiency
  • Work Experience (in Canada and abroad)
  • Adaptability (spouse, family in Canada, etc.)
